Popular Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, also known as Falz, has confirmed that controversial social media influencer Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, sought his help during a legal battle earlier this year. Falz disclosed that Bobrisky begged him for N3 million to secure placement in the VIP section of a correctional facility.
This statement follows a letter from Falz’s legal team, Falana & Falana Chambers, addressing defamatory remarks made by social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan. The legal team refuted claims that Falz had conspired with Bobrisky to manipulate the justice system by financially aiding him to secure favorable legal outcomes.
In the letter, dated September 26, 2024, Falz’s lawyer, Taiwo E. Olawanle, clarified that although Bobrisky did reach out to Falz for advice, Falz declined to offer any financial support, stressing that no payments were necessary.
The letter reads: “On May 4, 2024, Mr. Idris Okuneye contacted our client, requesting legal advice. During the conversation, Bobrisky claimed he needed N3 million to pay officials for access to the VIP section of the Correctional Centre. Our client advised him that no such payments were required.”
Despite Falz’s refusal to provide financial assistance, Bobrisky allegedly continued to press for the money, expressing dissatisfaction with his legal team and their handling of his case.
The letter also condemned VeryDarkMan for publishing defamatory statements on social media, which implied that Falz was involved in a conspiracy and a homosexual relationship with Bobrisky, as well as attempting to secure a presidential pardon for him.
Falana & Falana Chambers have demanded an immediate retraction of the false claims and a public apology from VeryDarkMan, warning that failure to comply within 24 hours would result in legal action and a claim for damages to Falz’s reputation.
In a related development, Bobrisky has denied bribery allegations, after a viral video suggested he paid N15 million to EFCC officers to have money laundering charges dropped. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has ordered an investigation into the claims.
