Responding to inquiries about Tinubu’s potential involvement as “Minister of Petroleum,” Onanuga explained that media speculation has fueled this misconception. “The President has never called himself the Minister of Petroleum,” he stated, noting that one of the two current ministers is specifically dedicated to advancing Nigeria’s gas sector, which has been underutilized despite Nigeria’s substantial reserves.
Onanuga emphasized that Tinubu’s focus on the gas industry corrects past administrations’ oversight, adding, “The president supervises all his ministers and is involved in the oversight of every ministry, but he doesn’t hold the petroleum minister title himself.”
He also addressed concerns about rising economic hardship, assuring Nigerians that President Tinubu is attuned to their struggles. “President Tinubu feels the pain of Nigerians,” Onanuga said, adding that while some critics have dubbed him “T-pain” out of frustration, Tinubu is dedicated to providing relief and fostering economic stability.
