President Bola Tinubu declared on Thursday that his administration is committed to a form of democracy designed to eradicate poverty while ensuring quality education for Nigerian children. He emphasized the necessity for robust collaboration among federal, state, and local governments to achieve this vision.
During a meeting with the National Working Committee of the All Progressives’ Congress in Lagos, Tinubu stated, “I am committed to supporting a strong and ideologically-determined democracy that is progressive, inclusive, and focused on eliminating poverty while providing quality education for our children.”
The President’s stance was conveyed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement titled ‘President Tinubu: Nigeria’s progressive movement must deliver on quality education for all Nigerian children and jobs for youths.’
Expressing support for the establishment of the National Institute of Progressive Studies, Tinubu emphasized the need for democracy to be progressive and inclusive, addressing poverty through job opportunities for youths and ensuring quality education for all Nigerian children.
Tinubu anticipated that the Institute would play a crucial role in conducting research and educating party members on democratic principles and good governance while creating a distinct identity for the party.
The President acknowledged the challenges faced by democracy in the past but expressed optimism about a promising future for the country, pledging to deliver on these ideals through collaboration with various government branches.
During the e-registration and digital membership validation exercise scheduled for the first quarter of 2024, Tinubu urged the party’s leadership to target more youths and women. He affirmed his unwavering support for the party’s progressive ideological stance, vowing to pursue it with vigor.
Tinubu extended gratitude to party members for their support during campaigns, electoral victory, and the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his presidency. Despite expressing a desire for a gathering, he cited the demands of his office as a reason for limited engagements.
Expressing concern over the high number of out-of-school children in the country, Tinubu emphasized the need to address this issue by establishing more schools, recruiting teachers, and providing at least one meal a day for school children—a strategy aligned with the progressive ideology the party aims to pursue.
