The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed the incident, attributing it to a series of line and generator trips that destabilized the system. TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah explained that, while a portion of the grid maintained functionality, a “partial disturbance” impacted bulk power supply in several regions.
Engineers from TCN were dispatched to restore service, and by 2:49 pm, power had been reinstated in Abuja, with gradual restoration underway for other affected areas. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our electricity customers,” Mbah stated, emphasizing efforts to fully stabilize the grid.
The incident underscores ongoing challenges within Nigeria’s national power infrastructure, as efforts to improve grid reliability continue amid frequent disruptions.
