Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, appeared at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters on Tuesday over allegations of fund misappropriation during his tenure.
The embattled former governor arrived at the EFCC’s office in a black Hilux vehicle, accompanied by his legal team. His appearance follows a recent Supreme Court ruling upholding the constitutionality of the anti-graft agency.
Speculation about Bello’s visit had circulated last week, but his media aides remained silent on the matter.
At the last hearing on November 14, the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, presided over by Justice Maryanne Anenih, addressed fresh charges brought against Bello by the EFCC. The agency sought an adjournment, citing the 30-day window provided for Bello to respond to the summons.
While Bello’s co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, were granted administrative bail, the EFCC requested additional time to secure the former governor’s appearance in court. The case was adjourned to November 27 for arraignment.
Bello’s legal troubles add to growing scrutiny of public officials accused of corruption, as the EFCC intensifies its anti-graft efforts.
