The Federal Government has initiated the construction of a smart divisional police headquarters in Mpape, Bwari Area Council of Abuja, alongside six residential quarters for police rank-and-file officers.
This initiative is part of broader reforms aimed at modernising the Nigeria Police Force with advanced technology and promoting inclusive, community-based policing.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister of Police Affairs Ibrahim Gaidam, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Yusuf Abubakar Argungu, emphasized the project’s significance in addressing local security concerns.
According to a statement by Bolaji Kazeem, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations for the Ministry, the station will tackle issues such as kidnapping, robbery, and “one-chance” operations in Mpape and its surrounding areas.
“This divisional headquarters will safeguard citizens commuting daily for work and other activities, providing a secure environment for residents and businesses,” Gaidam stated.
The Federal Government, he added, remains committed to transforming the Nigeria Police Force into a cutting-edge, technology-driven institution capable of intelligence-led operations.
The District Head of Mpape, Alhaji Adamu Diga, praised the upgrade of the existing Mpape Police Post into a full-fledged divisional headquarters. He highlighted how the development will improve service delivery and enhance security in the area.
The project marks a significant step toward improving policing infrastructure and reinforcing security in the Federal Capital Territory.
