Police in Nasarawa State, in collaboration with a local vigilante group, successfully rescued a lecturer from Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK) who was kidnapped on Wednesday night near the Old Barracks in Kokona local government area, a few kilometers away from the university.

The kidnapped victim, Mr. Isaac Igbawua, was fortunate as the police, assisted by a local farmer, discovered the kidnappers’ den where victims were held for ransom. The farmer, upon making the discovery, promptly alerted the police. In collaboration with the local vigilante, law enforcement officers invaded the hideout located in the nearby Ogba village.

Witnesses reported that the suspected kidnappers fled upon sighting the police, leaving their captive, Isaac Igbawua, behind. The Nasarawa State Police Command had earlier confirmed the rescue of the lecturer in a statement by its spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel.

However, it was reported that the fleeing suspected kidnappers, in their attempt to escape, killed two individuals in Wulko community of Nassarawa Eggon local government area in Nasarawa State. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges of insecurity in certain areas, despite successful rescue operations.

Residents of Wulko said the fleeing kidnappers were running away from their hideout in a neighbouring village following police invasion, when they ran into the two young men and gunned them down.

Those killed were Ango Habakkuk, popularly known in the area as Ango Gentle, a technician and his best friend Ewuga Williams, a security man; both residents of Wulko community.

Our correspondent further gathered that the remains of Ewuga Williams has since been while that of Ango Habbakuk is still at morgue of OLA Hospital, Akwanga, in Nasarawa State.
