Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to thwart any attempts to undermine his administration’s efforts in delivering good governance and safeguarding the interests of the state.
Speaking during the 2025 New Year State Banquet at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday night, Fubara reassured residents of his unwavering commitment to defending Rivers State’s integrity.
“We will ensure we protect the integrity of this state at all costs. We won’t allow anybody to take this state for a ride. It doesn’t matter the approach I will use,” Fubara declared.
The governor credited the steadfast support of prominent political figures such as former governors Dr. Peter Odili and Sir Celestine Omehia, along with leaders like Sir Austin Opara, Senators John Azuta-Mbata, Lee Maeba, Prince Uche Secondus, and Dr. Abiye Sekibo. He described them as the cornerstone of Rivers State’s political stability.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara emphasized, “The beginning and the end of politics in this state is Sir Peter Odili. If he is sitting with us here, alongside these other distinguished leaders, who do detractors have with them? These are the true frontiers of Rivers State politics.”
Reflecting on the challenges and successes of 2024, Fubara expressed optimism for the future. “It was not an easy year, but we ended it on a high note. Our gains surpassed our losses. With your support, 2025 will be even better,” he said.
Fubara reiterated his commitment to the Rivers First policy, pledging to protect lives and enhance governance despite distractions.
He highlighted key achievements, including advancements in health, education, and emergency services. “For over nine years, there was no functional fire service, but today, we have procured vehicles and are remodelling offices. Education, too, is a priority, with significant provisions in our budget to address dilapidated primary schools,” he stated.
The governor also announced plans to commence the commissioning of projects in February 2025, focusing on holistic development beyond road infrastructure.
Dr. Tammy Danagogo, Secretary to the State Government, commended Fubara’s leadership and resilience, describing him as a transformative leader committed to the state’s progress. Similarly, Hon. Awaji-Inombek Abiante, representing Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency, praised the governor’s dedication and called on all stakeholders to join efforts in rebuilding Rivers State.
Fubara’s vow underscores his administration’s focus on preserving Rivers State’s political stability and advancing its development agenda.
