Timileyin Ajayi, 32, is in custody at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Nasarawa State Police Command, facing charges for the alleged murder of 24-year-old corps member Salome Adaidu.
Adaidu, who was serving in Abuja, reportedly visited Ajayi’s residence in New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, before her tragic death. Authorities apprehended Ajayi on January 12 as he attempted to dispose of her severed head after allegedly dismembering her body.
During his parade at the Nasarawa State Police Command headquarters, alongside the weapons reportedly used in the crime, Ajayi admitted to the killing, claiming it stemmed from jealousy.
“I killed her because we don’t have each other all the time,” he stated in an interview with Channels Television. “It’s not something I planned. I discovered chats with other guys on her phone, and that was why I decided to act.”
When asked about remorse, Ajayi shockingly replied, “I don’t have any regrets. Life is reciprocal. We were compatible, and I believed I was justified.”
Adaidu’s family, devastated by the horrific incident, refuted any knowledge of a relationship between their daughter and the suspect.
“We don’t know him,” said her elder sister, Esther Adaidu. “This man murdered and dismembered my sister. I demand justice.”
Her uncle, Samson Adaji Adaidu, described the gruesome crime, stating, “He butchered her body into over 50 pieces and left them in polythene bags, seemingly prepared for consumption.”
The Nasarawa State Police Command assured the public of justice. The command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, stated, “Investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be prosecuted if found guilty. We urge anyone with complaints against him to come forward.”
While earlier reports identified Ajayi as a gospel singer, he clarified during the interview that he is a cryptocurrency trader.
The case has drawn public outrage, with Adaidu’s family and community demanding swift and thorough justice for the young woman’s brutal murder.
