Sunday Omisakin, an ex-convict recently granted state pardon by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been re-arrested for stealing a plasma television.
Omisakin, who was listed as number 8 among the ex-convicts pardoned on December 24, 2024, was remanded in the Ilesa Correctional Centre following his arraignment by an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Court records revealed that on January 3, 2025, Omisakin allegedly broke into the residence of Shittu Damilare in the Iludun area of Osogbo and stole a plasma television worth ₦600,000.
The charge sheet stated:
- Count I: “That you, Adebayo Omisakin Sunday, on the 3rd day of January 2025, at about 12:00 pm, in the Al-Medinat Area, Iludun, Osogbo Magisterial District, did break and enter the house of one Shittu Damilare and steal a plasma TV valued at ₦600,000.”
- Count II: “That you, Adebayo Omisakin Sunday, on the same date, time, and place, did steal a plasma TV valued at ₦600,000, property of Shittu Damilare.”
Omisakin’s actions were deemed violations of Sections 411 (1)(2), 383, and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34 Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
At his first court appearance on January 7, Omisakin applied for bail. However, the prosecutor, Kayode Adeoye, opposed the application, citing concerns about the defendant’s behavior. Magistrate A. Adeyeba subsequently adjourned the hearing to January 10 for a ruling on the bail application.
On January 10, Magistrate Adeyeba declined the bail application and ordered Omisakin’s remand at the Ilesa Correctional Centre, pending further proceedings.
Notably, Omisakin was previously pardoned for minor offences alongside two others, including Segun Olowookere and Sunday Morakinyo, who had been sentenced to death for armed robbery and theft of a fowl in Oyan, Osun State.
The case highlights concerns over the rehabilitation and reintegration of ex-convicts into society, as Omisakin returned to criminal activities shortly after his release.
