The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued the wife of retired Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, who was abducted from her residence in Arepo, Ogun State, last Thursday. The daring operation led to the neutralization of two kidnappers and the recovery of vital evidence, including a large sum of ransom money.
According to Police spokesperson, Adejobi, the Ogun State Command’s anti-kidnapping unit traced the kidnappers to a creek in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State through detailed intelligence gathering. On January 23, 2025, around 6:45 AM, the police launched a raid on the hideout, where the kidnappers opened fire upon noticing the police.
In a fierce exchange of gunfire, two of the abductors were killed, while four others managed to escape, leaving behind their weapons. The victim, Mrs. Odumosu, was rescued unharmed from the swampy terrain during the operation.
“The kidnappers had planned their next move in the swampy area of Ikorodu, but our operatives swiftly acted on intelligence and neutralized the threat,” Adejobi said. “Mrs. Odumosu is now safe and has been reunited with her family, after undergoing a precautionary medical evaluation.”
During the raid, police recovered four AK-47 rifles, three locally-made single-barrelled guns, various ammunition, and N10 million in ransom money that had been demanded by the kidnappers.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, and the operatives for their exceptional bravery and teamwork. The operation has been hailed as a significant success in the fight against kidnappings and violent crime.
