The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has elected Dr. Agbo Major as its new National Chairman at a convention held on Wednesday, but the absence of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and former presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso has raised speculation about internal party tensions.
The convention, which lasted from Tuesday night to early Wednesday morning, also saw the election of other key party officials, including Mr. Oginni Olaposi as National Secretary and Chief Felix Chukwurah as Deputy National Chairman (South).
The event followed a court-ordered restructuring of the party, and while party leaders assured members of unity, the absence of Kwankwaso and Yusuf has fueled speculation about divisions within the party. Attempts to reach both politicians for comments were unsuccessful.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Major urged aggrieved members to return and contribute to rebuilding the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
