A nurse, Ruby Johnson , has thrown a question to nurses on their choice of institutions.
She said: “In Nigeria, we often hear people say, “I finished from School of Nursing,” or “I went to the University.” And somehow, without saying it outright, we place one above the other.
“But the truth is, both are important. School of Nursing builds a strong foundation of skill and practice. University gives you broader knowledge and academic exposure. One is not “less” than the other.”
The real problem is when we stop moving forward after we start.
Johnson advised nurses by saying: “Don’t Stop Where You Started.
Chidi went to a school of nursing, he finished, started working, and stopped there. Amina went to the University. She graduated, started working, but she too stopped there. Years passed, and they both watched as others who kept learning, upgrading, and stretching themselves went further.”She reminded nurses that, life is like a ball — it keeps rolling. It doesn’t stop because you have reached “a level.” You must keep pushing, learning, and improving.
“So let’s stop these unnecessary comparisons and misguided pride. Whether you start with a diploma, a degree, or even self-taught skills, the starting point is not your destination.
The real question is: Did you keep going?” she added.
