The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that over 4.4 million Nigerians have taken advantage of the ongoing online voter pre-registration exercise, which commenced on August 18, 2025.
A statement released on Monday by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee which was made available to our correspondent, said a total of 4,445,505 Nigerians had successfully pre-registered online as of Sunday, September 14.
A breakdown of the figures shows that 51.83% (2,304,211) of those who registered online are female, while 48.17% (2,141,294) are male.
The majority of registrants, approximately 65.79% (2,924,643), fall within the 18 to 34 age group, with students making up 25.02% (1,112,344) of the total online pre-registrants.
INEC also provided an update on completed registrations, which include both online and physical (in-person) registrations. As of Friday, September 12, a total of 509,929 Nigerians had completed the process. Of this number, 54.94% (280,171) are female, while 45.06% (229,758) are male.
Notably, young people aged 18 to 34 accounted for a significant majority of the completed registrations at 74.15% (378,132), and students made up 38.54% (196,529).
The Commission has uploaded the detailed distribution of registrants—broken down by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability status—on its official platforms for public viewing.
Regarding the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), INEC reaffirmed that online pre-registration in the territory ends today, Monday, September 15. From September 16, only physical (in-person) registration will be available at designated centres for a period of two weeks.
The Commission said it will decentralize the registration process to all 62 wards in the FCT between September 29 and October 8, 2025. The detailed addresses of the ward-level registration centres are also available on INEC’s official platforms.
INEC continues to urge eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the registration process to ensure their participation in the upcoming elections.
